It is difficult to believe that a range of hotly-anticipated Angry Birds toys could have been created from what was once just a simple and unknown game designed to wile away a few minutes on a mobile phone. However, the Angry Birds game has become something of a worldwide phenomenon. It is the most popular iPhone game ever, remaining at the top of the iTunes download charts for most of 2010. This article aims to provide you with more information about the new Angry Birds toys and when you can expect to see them on the shelves in UK toy stores.
If you don't know about Angry Birds then where have you been? Like all the most successful ideas that capture everyone's imagination, the idea behind the game is a simple one. All you have to do is shoot the birds at the pigs using a catapult, the object of the game being to destroy the pigs to move on to the next level. It sounds easy but it most certainly is not. There is a lot of strategy involved and you only get a limited amount of birds to shoot. The game is insanely addictive and this is at the heart of its success.
The game was created by a Finnish company called Rovio Mobile who had previously released a number of other mobile games but with little or no success. Angry Birds came about almost by accident and it was so low on the company's list of priorities that they only had 4 people working on it and as a result it took an age to complete the project. The game makes use of the iPhone touch screen - you slide your finger to pull back the catapult to shoot the bird - it is very simple to pick up but nearly impossible to master. The game was something of a slow-burner when it was released but interest spread and now it has been downloaded over 50 million times!
Now Rovio are liking to cash in on the success of the game by releasing a range of toys which consist of soft toys based on characters from the game, including miniature plush toys with backpack clips, mini soft toys with built in sound effects and larger 8-inch plush toys that look really cool. You can even get your own real-life Angry Birds catapult!
The toys will be on sale officially in the UK from early-March 2011 ranging in price from £3.99 through to £9.99, but make sure to catch them while you can! To keep up to date with the latest toy news and toys reviews and find out more about the Top Toys of 2011, click the links below.
