If you've decided that you'd like to become a hobbyist, but haven't quite made up your mind about what type of hobby you'd like to commit to, I'd like to provide you with a little information that will greatly aid you in that choice! The first issue that I'd like to address is about the confusion that exists about toy model trains. The first thing that comes to mind when most people think about model trains links directly to their childhood memories of Christmas, and those wonderful train sets that their parent had set up under their Christmas tree. For more people than you can imagine this memory has served as the catalyst for becoming involved in this amazing hobby.

Unfortunately, many others draw a direct line to the inexpensive toys that are typically sold in retail stores for children, and through this thinking automatically rule out model railroading as a hobby. Sadly enough, this group of people are setting themselves up to miss out on enjoying one of the most pleasing and rewarding hobbies that anyone could choose to be a part of.

In selecting toy model trains as a hobby you'll discover early on that this isn't a hobby for anyone who is easily bored. There are so many different elements to learn about, and to do, that this endeavor will keep you busy for years to come. More importantly, this is a hobby that will allow you to involve not only your family members, but friends as well.

If you're someone who has a creative side, then toy model trains is an excellent choice because it will allow you to demonstrate this part of your personality through the creation of scenery for your layout. As an added bonus, for those of you who enjoy being creative, weathering your railcars and components of your scenery is one more way to demonstrate your artistic side.

If your someone who enjoys technical challenges you'll be more than satisfied by all of the electrical work that has to be performed to have a successfully running train layout. To further stimulate the analytical and creative side of your brain, diagramming and designing your track layout is just one more part of model railroading that you'll happily discover!

Last but certainly not least, and if that isn't enough, no train layout is complete without a selection of scale model trains to bring it to life. You'll spend countless numbers of hours choosing among the various scale types to add to, or complete your toy model train layout.
