Three Key Points of RC Helicopters

When you first receive your RC helicopter, Im sure that you want to take it out the box and immediately start flying your RC that very second. This is understandable, but you first should go over these three basic key parts first. The first part is that you should practice flying your RC with a flight simulator before you fly the real one . Next doing a pre-flight check of your new RC helicopter . Last you should know proper storage of your new RC, so that it will last you for a long time and give you hours upon hours of fun in this wonderful and addicting hobby of RC helicopters.

It is always said that practice makes perfect. This statement is very true when it comes to fly RC helicopter. There is a great skill involved with flying RCs, so it is suggested that you get a flight simulator and practice digitally first before you fly the real RC helicopter. Once you are done training with the simulator you may also want to add training gears to your helicopter. RC landing gears are a piece of metal that attaches to the bottom of your helicopter with four legs and ping pong type balls at the end to help with your landing performances. Whether you land a bit hard, or a bit sideways or awkward the landing gears will help stabilize your landing and make you land perfectly on the ground, helping you from damaging your RC, and helping with your landing. You should practice with the landing gear and become very comfortable landing before you take off the landing gears, to avoid unwanted damage and costly repairs. Practice makes perfect remember that.

Once you have received your RC toy your going to want to fly it right away, but hold on first you need to take a few precautions. Every RC comes with a instruction manual, which will provide you with exact details of care and so on with that particular RC you now proudly own. You will need to charge the battery for a few hours providing that your RC helicopter is electric. If you own a gas or nitro RC than this is irrelevant. Doing your pre-flight check you will look for loose bolts or hardware or broken parts, along with any packing straps that could be left over. Failure to do a pre-flight check could result in damage to the motor components while using your RC helicopter.

Last key point you should be aware of is the proper storage, handling and maintenance of your RC helicopter. This is a very important key factor because when winter hits most RC helicopters can not be flown, and without proper storage and maintenance could result in costly repairs. The RC should be placed neatly away and out of reach in harms way, if possible in a storage container of some sort. Assuming that you have a electric powered helicopter you will have a lithium polymer battery pack, which is the life line to your machine. To store your electric battery pack as long as it has not been flown more than seventy times, has not reached a temperature of forty five degrees Fahrenheit or has not short circuited, you should make sure that the battery is fully charged to a 4.2 volt charge per cell. You should be able to balance your battery by choosing the balance selection on your batteries charger. After doing this your battery will be safe for two - four months and should be repeated up to and no longer than one year. If not repeated your battery will die and may leave you with buying a new battery pack. If your battery pack has been flown over seventy times, exceeded sixty degrees Fahrenheit and shorts out or has shorted out before you may try to balance the battery cells but the outcome will not be the same. Once the battery has been balanced you should now place the battery in a plastic bag and then placed into a metal or aluminum container to make sure that if the battery shorts out while in storage the potential fire is contained.

These three key factors of flying RC helicopters is very important to ensure that your helicopter provides you with many hours of fun. Without conducting a pre-flight check and reviewing the manual, not practicing flying with the simulator and training gear, or the proper storage of your RC helicopter will result in hard times and possibly a short career in this wonderful world of RC hobbies. You should always take the time to go over everything involved with your RC and cutting corners will prove to be costly.
